Saturn S Series
The Saturn S-Series vehicles belong to a compact car family manufactured by Saturn
automobile company. They are the first series of cars for Saturn and were mainly
built in-house. Saturn started marketing the S-Series before the end of year 1990;
it was redesigned in the year 1996 where SC models got a "third door", a small
rearward-opening door behind the driver's door allowing rear passengers an easy
entry and exit; and was replaced by the Saturn ION in 2003 when the company decided
to end its production in August 29, 2002.

The S-Series were made of line-up that includes sedans with trim models such
as SL, SL1 and SL2; the coupes with trim models such as SC, SC1 and SC2; and the
wagons with trim models such as SW1 and SW2. Either the SOHC Inline-4 or the DOHC
Inline-4 engines with 1.9 liters displacement each mostly powered these models.
Throughout the year of Saturn's existence, there had been many changes made both
in interior and exterior.
During the year between 1991 and 1992, new look for the S-Series includes an
added upper engine mount for reduced noise and vibration, revised seat-inset fabric
for the SL2 and SC, polished alloy wheels with painted "geartooth" pattern also
for SL2 and SC among others. In the late 1992 to year 1993, driver's side air
bag becomes available, rear bumper and front bumper with optional fog lights were
updated and a softer tires and suspension tuning were available for the SL2. These
are just among the innovations that the S-Series vehicles had undergone. For so
many years, there have been constant changes in the Saturn S-Series looks and
equipments before it was finally replaced by the ION.
