Saturn S Series Engine

One most valuable part of a vehicle is its engine. Throughout the model years
of Saturn S-Series vehicles with all its model line up, there were only two kinds
of engine used. These two engines were uniquely made for Saturn vehicles, the
SOHC and the DOHC Inline-4. Each of these engines has 1.9 liters in displacement.
The Inline-4 is a kind of engine with an internal combustion and four cylinders
that are aligned in one row. This type of engine is most commonly used in vehicles
with engine size that ranges up to 2.0 and in some cases 3 liters displacement.
In the case of the S-Series engines, the Inline-4 is used either as SOHC or DOHC.
The SOHC or Single Overhead Cam is the design of an internal combustion engine
where one camshaft is located above the valves. These SOHC engines are mostly
limited to two valves per cylinder in which one is allocated for the intake process
while the other is for the exhaust. On the other hand, the DOHC or the Double
(Dual) Overhead Cam is also an internal combustion engine. However, in the DOHC
the camshafts that operate the intake and exhaust valves are mounted above the
cylinders and there are separate camshafts for inlet and exhaust valves.
